Why does Marketing fail at Times?

I have noticed this topic to be quite popular with financial advisors. Once the “I need more leads” bug bites, they will be dedicated to investing more money and time in marketing. However, a lot of times Financial advisors cut the plug on marketing. Why do you think that is? Here are the top reasons why marketing campaign efforts fail.

 Focus on the bigger picture

Marketing efforts tend to focus more on the micro issues rather than on the principles. Basically, you are skipping steps in relationship development. You can look good, smell phenomenal, and have the best personality. If you approach a stranger now and ask them to marry you they will say no. The same applies to marketing. You must try and build a relationship with your audience before you pitch them a product. Instead of focusing on what colour your logo should be, focus on building and nourishing the relationship with your audience.

Pinpoint what your product use is

This one seems simple yet it's where we go wrong. If you find out a loved one had to undergo a medical procedure, the first thing you hear from the doctor is how long the procedure will be and what they will do, but what you really want to know is if your loved one will be okay after the procedure. Products are tools, whether it’s a good or service. The fact of the matter is that we buy something because we want to use it.

It doesn't break through the noise

  • Appeal to your audiences core desires or fears
  • You need to fundamentally know what they want
  • Reflect back to your audience what that desire/fear is
  • It needs to be focused and singular

This is where the problem comes in. Most of the time when marketers are unsure about what message to convey they send out multiple messages and hope for the best. It's important to make your message singular and focused through repetition.

 Relying on a single channel

Do you know the saying don’t put all your eggs in one basket? Each platform has its own strengths and weaknesses. What marketers do is build a marketing ecosystem where each channel supports a different objective. By diversifying your channels you have options on what works best.

 Unrealistic expectations

Great things take time. When people invest in marketing they are impatient when it comes to results. Marketing is a long-term process. If it was short-term it would only produce short-term results. While there isn’t a single recipe for success, by understanding the above-mentioned reasons why marketing fails, you can spot the red flags and get your objectives back on track.
